Youth Round-up: Sept 2010

Dovedale House in the Peak District: Dovedale House website

Looking Forward… It’s a brand new term and there will be a lot to look forward to over the next few weeks and months! My personal timetable begins with a retreat down at Farnborough Abbey in Hampshire, which I have found to be an important time of physical and spiritual refreshment before the business of the year begins. A short time after that I will be accompanying the new yr6 at St Francis School to Snowdonia as well as being back at Bournville School, continuing to mentor and support some of the students there.

FAITH and FAITHFUL kick off on Sunday 12th September with our usual programme of fun and faith packed events. In addition, we will be beginning to practise for our Christmas pantomime as we work to build on the success of our last one in January 2009.

As usual, the Youth Roundup will bring you all the good news stories happening with our young people here at St Francis, Bournville so please watch this space!

A Fantastic breathe!!! – At the end of July myself and four young people from this parish set off for Derbyshire to attend breathe – a contemporary youth retreat – held at Lichfield’s Diocesan retreat house in Dove Dale. It was the busiest week we’ve had to date and we had some great feedback from the young people. I won’t put words into anyone’s mouth so please watch out for an official review of the week from our young people which will be coming soon. In the meantime, here’s to breathe 2011!

Summer Stuff – While I take time over the holidays to catch up on administration and planning there were one or two things that have happened from a youth perspective. Firstly, a mobile skate park descended on Rowheath Pavilion car park – with young people turning up to show off their moves. The Pavilion also hosted a social and entertainments night in their newly refurbished café for young people to come and relax and enjoy the evening in a safe environment. More about these events soon.
