Lentwise – Session 2

The second session for our Lent course focussed on the theme of nourishment and what keeps us going – reflecting on the saying of Jesus “I am the bread of life” (John 6.25-35).

We had some good discussions around the ideas of what nourishes us spiritually:  nature, relationships, music, worship and silence were common themes. We also got into some interesting areas of thinking around what Jesus meant by saying that the food which he gives lasts into eternal life. This is the food that nourishes us as we travel on the way to the Father, yet is also gives us a taste of that life in the here and now. There is a now-and-not-yet experience of eternal life as we eat the bread that Jesus gives. And although it is satisfying we do still want more. What did Jesus mean saying that when we come to him we will never be hungry? We all felt that with our spiritual nourishment we still needed refreshing and renewing. I wonder if he meant that in coming to him our spiritual hungers will always be satisfied – that we will always be provided for. With Jesus there is always daily bread; bread for today and bread for tomorrow.

What do you think? Please feel free to post your comment.

Sorry there’s no picture this week – we ate the bread before I took a photo.
