Youth Round-up: Oct 2011
Welcome to Mr Nutbeam – It is with great pleasure that we welcome Richard Nutbeam as Yr6 teacher and Assistant Head at St Francis School. I was particularly happy to find out that I would be working with him since we were colleagues previously – at Boots in Harborne from 2003-4. I would like to wish him every success in his new role and ask that you keep him in your prayers as he settles in to the school.
Youth Work Restarts – FAITH, FAITHFUL and Sacred Space are now underway for the new academic year. If you are in yr6 or above then we have a group for you! Please come and talk to me about what goes on at these groups or have a look at the youth notice board at the back of church or at our blog. I and all the leaders and young people will be happy to welcome you!
NEW Wednesday Evening Club – After the October half term we will be starting a midweek drop-in for young people 10-13 years old from 7-8.30pm during term time. Be prepared for lots of activities, games and fun. Entry is £1 and I will be working closely with Liz Wood (the B’ham City Council youth worker) to provide diversions for young people across the age ranges in Bournville.
Snowdonia Revisited – Once again, I accompanied yr6 at St Francis to Plas Gwynant for their start-of-year residential – comprising of mountain climbing, canoeing, hiking and beach walking – all for the purpose of learning important life skills while discovering the environment. This will help me to get to know the young people even better as we work closely during the coming year. Mrs Draper was unable to come with us this year and will be away from her post for 6 wks. However, do remember to pray for her and for a swift return to a school which is missing her very much.
